My Review

Yet another version of an old Hollywood classic is out with fairly good results. First time director Bradley Cooper put together “A Star Is Born” that has good performances, good music, and a good screenplay (that he co-wrote with Eric Roth and Will Fetters) retelling this familiar story which premiered in 1937, with remakes in 1954 and 1976.

Cooper and Lady Gaga breathed new life into the leading roles, evoking positive comparisons with Frederic March and Janet Gaynor (1937), James Mason and Judy Garland (1954), and Kris Kristofferson and Barbra Streisand (1976). The strong supporting cast includes Sam Elliot, Andrew Dice Clay, Dave Chappelle, Anthony Ramos, Bonnie Somerville, Greg Grunberg, Ron Rifkin, Rafi Gavron, and Drena De Niro, daughter of Robert De Niro.

The listenable music, written by Lukas Nelson and Lady Gaga, is current enough to give this film a contemporary feel. The watchable “A Star Is Born” was very popular at the box office for producers Bradley Cooper and Jon Peters, Gerber Pictures, Live Nation Productions, Peters Entertainment, Joint Effort Production Company, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, and Warner Bros. Pictures.
