“A Minecraft Movie” is an adventure comedy film about four eccentric people who get pulled into a mysterious parallel universe which thrives on imagination and, apparently, bizarre behavior. Director Jarod Hesse (“Napoleon Dynamite” 2004) put together a film based on the video game Minecraft; it is poorly written, suffers from unfocused direction, and terrible acting.
However, since this is a motion picture primarily aimed at children, that judgement is probably moot. The unwatchable “A Minecraft Movie” was a big hit at the box office for producer Jason Momoa, Legendary Pictures, Vertigo Entertainment, Mojang Studios, On The Roam Productions, and Warner Bros. Pictures. The head cast delivered poor performances including Momoa, Jack Black, and Jennifer Coolidge, not known for their wide ranges as actors. Co-stars include Sebastian Hansen, Emma Myers, Danielle Brooks, Rachel House, Matt Berry, and a voice cameo by Kate McKinnon in a post-credits scene.
