“A Haunting in Venice” is a mystery movie where Kenneth Branagh once again plays Hercule Poirot, this time residing in Venice, Italy. The Belgian detective is invited to attend a Halloween party and seance at the home of an opera singer who is hoping to expose the medium as a fraud. However, events take unexpected twists and turns and the drama proceeds from there.
Director Branagh developed quite a good whodunit in this movie, admittedly with some dull moments. However, overall, screenwriter Michael Green does have a consistent storyline, based on the 1969 novel “Hallowe’en Party” by Agatha Christie. The supporting cast includes Kelly Reilly as the opera singer, Michelle Yeoh as the supposed psychic, as well as Tina Fey, Jamie Dornan, Riccardo Scamarcio, Kyle Allen, Camille Cotton, Jude Hill, Ali Khan, Emma Laird, Amir El-Masry, Vanessa Ifediora, and Rowan Robinson.
The watchable “A Haunting in Venice” was very successful in theatrical release for producers Kenneth Branagh and Ridley Scott, Kinberg Genre, The Mark Gordon Company, Scott Free Productions, Agatha Christie Limited, TSG Entertainment, 20th Century Studios, and The Walt Disney Company. This film is a sequel to “Death on the Nile” (2022) and “Murder on the Orient Express” (2017).
