My Review

“Flightplan” is psychological thriller movie about a recently widowed woman flying from Berlin to New York with her daughter and her husband’s body. She falls asleep about three hours into the flight, and wakes up to find her daughter missing. The pilot and the entire crew state she was never on board and is not on the passengers list, and the heavy drama proceeds from there. Director Robert Schwentke and screenwriters Peter A. Dowling and Billy Ray put together quite a thriller, despite a shaky premise and a few holes in the plot. But as Johnny Carson used to say, “If you buy the premise, you buy the bit.”

Jodie Foster is the star of this bit, or the show. This role of a dedicated mom is perfect for her range of acting abilities. Co-stars include Marlene Lawston as Jodie’s daughter, Peter Sarsgaard as the air marshall, Sean Bean as the airline pilot, Kate Beahan as the head flight attendant, Greta Scacchi as a therapist, Matt Bomer, Amanda Brooks, Jesse Burch, Erika Christensen, and Assaf Cohen as Ahmed. The less than perfect but nonetheless very watchable “Flightplan” was a big hit at the box office for producer Brian Grazer, Touchstone Pictures, Imagine Entertainment, Buena Vista Pictures Distribution, and The Walt Disney Company.
