My Review

Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau return for more cantankerous fun and games in “Grumpier Old Men.” Director Howard Deutch (“Pretty in Pink” 1986) and screenwriter Mark Steven Johnson put together a perfect sequel to 1993’s “Grumpy Old Men.”

Lemmon and Matthau reprised their roles, along with Ann-Margret (now married to Lemmon), Daryl Hannah and Kevin Pollack (daughter of Lemmon and son of Matthau, now married), Katie Sagona (Lemmon’s granddaughter), and Burgess Meredith as Lemmon’s father. This is Meredith’s final film role, as he passed in 1997. His career in movies began in 1935 in “The Scoundrel,” an uncredited role at Paramount Pictures. Sophia Loren joined the cast as the new resident in town who wants to convert the pair’s favorite bait shop into an Italian restaurant. Also appearing are Ann Morgan Guilbert as Loren’s mother and Max Wright as the county health inspector.

The very entertaining and watchable comedy “Grumpier Old Men” was successful in theatrical release for Warner Bros. Pictures. This winsome motion picture is a good chance to enjoy some our favorite stars from years gone by on the big screen once again.
