“Malibu’s Most Wanted” is a comedy movie about a wealthy white politician’s son emulating urban street culture with hopes to become a rapper. To discourage him, his father hires two African-American actors to pose as gang members to introduce him to real ghetto life. However, things do not go well as the two black guys are suburbanites as much as is his son. Director John Whitesell (“See Spot Run” 2001) put together a comedy with very few laughs and mostly miscues and misfires. The dreadful screenplay was written by Jamie Kennedy, Fax Bahr, Adam Small, and Nick Swardson.
The stars deliver mediocre performances throughout the film, starting with Jamie Kennedy as Malibu’s most wanted son. His rapper slang is obnoxious as can be, and is a drag on the pace of the film. Co-stars include Ryan O’Neal and Bo Derek as his parents, Blair Underwood as the campaign director, Taye Diggs and Anthony Anderson as the two actors, Regina Hall, Damian Dante Wayans, Jeffrey Tambor, Kal Penn, Terry Crews, Mike Epps, Kellie Martin, Noel Gugliemi, Big Boy, newsman Hal Fishman, and Snoop Dog as the voice of Ronnie Rizzat.
The unwatchable nonsense “Malibu’s Most Wanted” did have some success at the box office for Bahr/Small Productions, Karz Entertainment, and Warner Bros. Pictures. The film mercifully only had an 86 minute running time.
