My Review

A cynical view of Vice President Dick Cheney is presented to the public in the film “Vice.” The story follows Cheney in his quest to become the most powerful Vice President in history, depicting a meeting with then Texas Governor George W. Bush as he (Bush) accepts an offer from Cheney to handle many of the Presidential duties even as Bush is offering Cheney the role as his running mate on the GOP ticket. Who knows if this exchange ever really happened!

Whatever one’s opinion of the subject matter, there is no doubt about the excellent performance of Christian Bale as the nation’s 46th Veep. Bale seemed to actually be Cheney, under the excellent direction of Adam McKay (“Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy” 2004), who also wrote the screenplay and served as one of the producers with Brad Pitt, Will Ferrell, and others in the independent production.

The large supporting cast includes Sam Rockwell as George W. Bush, Amy Adams as Lynne Cheney, Steve Carrell as Donald Rumsfeld, Tyler Perry as Colin Powell, Lisa Gay Hamilton as Dr. Condoleeza Rice, Eddie Marsan as Paul Wolfowitz, Alison Pill as Mary Cheney, Lily Rabe as Liz Cheney, Alfred Molina as a waiter, Naomi Watts as a Fox News-type anchor, Bill Camp as President Gerald Ford, John Hillner as President George H. W. Bush, and Kirk Bovill as Dr. Henry KIssinger.
