My Review

“My Blue Heaven” is a comedy movie where Steve Martin plays a gangster going into the witness protection program, awaiting testifying against fellow mobsters in an upcoming court case. He has trouble maintaining a low profile, with bad acting and an even worse New York accent, causing trouble for the FBI agent in charge. Director Herbert Ross (“Goodbye, Mr. Chips” 1969) created a mediocre crime comedy picture with a few laughs here and there, a hilarity wasteland from the script by Nora Ephron.

Co-stars along with Steve Martin include Rick Moranis, Joan Cusack, Melanie Mayron, Bill Irwin, Carol Kane, Daniel Stern, William Hickey, Jesse Bradford, Ed Lauter, Colleen Camp, and Carol Ann Susi as Filomena. The barely watchable “My Blue Heaven” was a modest success at the box office for producer Herbert Ross, Hawn/Sybert Movie Company, and Warner Bros. Pictures.
