My Review

Walt Disney Pictures has a huge box office bomb called “A Wrinkle in Time.” This film, based on the 1962 novel by Madeleine L’Engle, tells the story of a girl on a quest to find her father, aided by three “heavenly” beings. The movie suffers from bad direction and an unfocused story that seems to turn into a New Age promotional film, similar to Disney’s “Tomorrowland” of 2015.

Director Ava DuVernay (“Selma” 2014) and screenwriters Jennifer Lee and Jeff Stockwell insult the audience’s collective intelligence with this garbage. Moviegoers rejected this film by staying away from theaters, costing Disney millions. Back to the drawing boards, producers Jim Whitaker and Catherine Hand, as well as Bob Iger.

At the head of the cast delivering terrible performances is Oprah Winfrey, smarmy as ever as Mrs. Which. She is just plain obnoxious here. Ditto for Reese Witherspoon and Mindy Kaling as Mrs. Whatsit and Mrs. Who, respectively. Others include Chris Pine, Michael Pena, Levi Miller, Zach Galifianakis, Storm Reid, Deric McCabe, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, and Andre Holland.

Avoid the unwatchable “A Wrinkle in Time” from The Walt Disney Company and save a wrinkle in two hours of your time.
