My Review

“The Tiger’s Apprentice” is an animated fantasy movie about a boy who becomes an apprentice to a talking tiger. He must undergo training in ancient magic to replace his deceased grandmother as one of the protectors of the earth against forces of evil. Director Raman Hui put together a colorfully animated film with lots of action, but with a storyline we have heard and seen before. The ho-hum screenplay was written by David Magee and Christopher Yost, based on the 2003 novel of the same name by Laurence Yep.

The all-star voice cast do their jobs well enough, which includes Brandon Soo Hoo in the title role, Henry Golding, Lucy Liu, Sandra Oh, Michelle Yeoh, Bowen Yang, Leah Lewis, Kheng Hua Tan, Sherry Cola, Greta Lee, Diana Lee Inosanto, Patrick Gallagher, Josh Zuckerman, and Raman Hui as the radio announcer. “The Tiger’s Apprentice” was released on the Paramount+ network, a production of Jane Startz Productions and Paramount Animation.
