My Review

“Harvey” is a comedic film where James Stewart plays a man whose imaginary friend, a six-foot, three-inch tall rabbit named Harvey, wreaks havoc among friends and family members. This movie has become a classic, well-directed by Henry Koster (“The Bishop’s Wife” 1947) from a script by Mary Chase, adapted from her own 1944 stage play of the same name.

James Stewart brings his patented folksy manner to this role, one of his most famous, and one of his most off-beat performances. Co-stars include Josephine Hull, Charles Drake, Cecil Kellaway, Jesse White, Victoria Home, Wallace Ford, Peggy Dow, Nana Bryant, and Clem Bevans. “Harvey” was popular at the box office for Universal Pictures. It was nominated for two Academy Awards, winning one for Best Supporting Actress (Hull). The non-winner was Best Actor (Stewart).
