Director-screenwriter Robert Moresco put together a superior crime drama called “Bent.” This story of a former narcotics police officer who seeks revenge on the people who framed him and sent him to prison, is somewhat of a formula plot but is very watchable due to the smooth direction by Moresco, who won an Oscar for Best Screenplay for 2004’s “Crash.”
Karl Urban is outstanding as Detective Danny Gallagher. Previously well known as Dr. Leonard McCoy of the recent “Star Trek” movies, Urban displays a wide acting range in his various roles. He was well employed by Moresco in “Bent.” The supporting cast includes Sofia Vergara, Andy Garcia, Vincent Spano, Grace Byers, Tonya Cornelisse, and John Finn.
“Bent” from Lionsgate Films is based on the 2009 novel “Deadly Codes” by J. P. O’Donnell, who was also one of the film’s producers.
