Denzel Washington brings us more thrilling vigilante action in “The Equalizer 2.” Director Antoine Fuqua, who was also at the helm of the original “Equalizer” in 2014, has this entire project running like a well oiled machine, greatly helped by returning screenwriter Richard Wonk.
The story features Washington’s character, retired government agent Robert McCall, as he sets out to seek revenge for the murder of one of his friends in the first picture. The action and plot lines are consistent and makes for a fast moving two hour and one minute film.
The supporting cast includes talented performers like Pedro Pascal, Ashton Sanders, Bill Pullman, Melissa Leo, and show business veteran Orson Bean as Sam Rubinstein, a Holocaust survivor. This was Bean’s last motion picture performance, as he passed in February, 2020. Worth mentioning are the outstanding offerings of Pullman and Leo, two more returnees from the 2014 original.
Columbia Pictures’ watchable movie “The Equalizer 2” debuted at number one on July 20, 2018, narrowly edging out “Mama Mia! Here We Go Again.”
