“Femme Fatale” is a crime thriller movie about a woman who steals a large amount of jewels from a red carpet event and then flees without splitting them with her partners-in-crime. She then becomes entangled in a series of events that threaten her life, as well as imperiling the entertainment of the film’s audience. Director-screenwriter Brian De Palma (“Mission: Impossible” 1996) sloppily put together a film with a convoluted plot and silly dialogue from a poorly written script.
The two major stars of the show, Rebecca Romijn-Stamos and Antonio Banderas, look sophomoric on the big screen, especially in a major Hollywood production. They are second-rate actors who are stuck with a bad script. Co-stars include Peter Coyote, Gregg Henry, Eriq Ebouaney, Edouard Montoute, Rie Rasmussen, Thierry Fremont, Eva Darlan, Fiona Curzon, and John Stamos (Rebecca’s husband) in a voice cameo as Antonio’s agent.
The unwatchable nonsense “Femme Fatale” was a box office bomb for Quinta Communications, Epsilon Motion Pictures, and Warner Bros. Pictures. The film won one award at 2002’s Stinkers Bad Movie Awards: Romijn-Stamos for Worst Fake Accent (Female). There were two other nominations: Romijn-Stamos for Worst Actress and De Palma for Worst Director.
