My Review

We find “Ma and Pa Kettle at the Fair” trying to raise money to send their daughter Rosie to college. Her boyfriend Marvin helps out, despite opposition from Birdie Hicks, Ma’s old nemesis from the first film in 1949.

Marjorie Main and Percy Kilbride return as the Kettles, who have moved back into their “House of the Future”-style home. Co-stars include Lori Nelson as Rosie Kettle, James Best as Marvin, Esther Dale as Birdie Hicks, Emory Parnell as Billy Reed, Russell Simpson as Clem Johnson, Rex Lease as the sheriff, and Billy Gray in an uncredited role as one of the Kettle children.

Director Charles Barton (“Abbott and Costello Meet the Killer, Boris Karloff” 1949) and screenwriters John Grant and Jack Henley did a good job crafting this fourth installment of the “Ma and Pa Kettle” franchise, “Ma and Pat Kettle at the Fair,” a hit at the box office for Universal-International and Universal Pictures.
