“Kiss Me Kate” is a musical film adaptation of Bill Shakespeare’s play “Taming of the Shrew.” Director George Sidney (“Viva Las Vegas” 1964) and screenwriter Dorothy Kingsley put together this winsome movie featuring the songs of Cole Porter. The scoring by Andre Previn and Saul Chapin earned the film’s sole Academy Award nomination. And Hermes Pan choreographed the fantastic dance numbers.
The king of movie musicals, Howard Keel, is the star of the show with his leading lady Kathryn Grayson. Co-stars are Ann Miller, Keenan Wynn, James Whitmore, Bobby Van, Kurt Kasznar, Bob Fosse, Ron Randall, Tommy Rall, and Willard Parker.
Producer Jack Cummings decided to film the picture in 3D, giving it a uniquely colorful set and added a vibrancy to this musical comedy. All are wonderful elements to the watchable Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer musical “Kiss Me Kate.”
