My Review

LucasFilm has come out with a motion picture about the backstory of Han Solo called “Solo: A Star Wars Story.” The long anticipated project featured Alden Ehrenreich playing Han Solo, quite a challenge considering the iconic hero was well-established by Harrison Ford in the first three “Star Wars” pictures. Ehrenreich did very well in the almost impossible situation.

He was aided in his efforts by veteran director Ron Howard (“Cocoon” 1985) and screenwriters Jonathan Kasdan and Lawrence Kasdan who put together a fun, fast moving action-packed film. Howard took over this project from the original directors, Phil Lord and Christopher Miller (“Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs” 2009), due to creative differences between them and producer Kathleen Kennedy (who is also the President of LucasFilm) and the Kasdans.

The supporting cast included Donald Glover as Lando Calrissian, Woody Harrelson, Emilia Clarke, Thandie Newton, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Paul Bettany, and Joanas Suotamo reprising the role of Chewbacca he previously shared with Peter Mayhew in “Star Wars” episodes seven and eight. Linda Hunt and Jon Favreau were heard in voice roles.

All part of the fun in the watchable “Solo: A Star Wars Story” from LucasFilm and Walt Disney Pictures. It was a modest hit at the box office.
