My Review

Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer cashed in on the popularity of television stars Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz in “The Long, Long Trailer.” The stars of CBS’s “I Love Lucy” once again play a married couple who purchase a 36-foot trailer to travel throughout the western United States. Numerous thrills, chills, and spills follow them throughout the movie’s 96 minute running time.

Ball and Arnaz dominate the entire film, appearing in virtually every scene. They were expertly directed by Vincente Minnelli (“The Bad and the Beautiful” 1952), who ensured good production values. This includes great cinematography by Robert Surtees, a good musical score by Adolph Deutsch, and a solid screenplay by Albert Hackett and Frances Goodrich.

Co-stars include such show biz stalwarts as Marjorie Main, Keenan Wynn, Moroni Olsen, Madge Blake, Bert Freed, Walter Baldwin, and Oliver Blake. Liza Minnelli, daughter of the director, was in a deleted scene as a little girl at the wedding. All contribute to the immensely entertaining and very watchable film “The Long, Long Trailer” from Desilu Productions and MGM.
