My Review

“The Last Time I Saw Paris” is a drama film about a reporter covering the end of World War II in Paris and, in the process, gets married to his girl friend’s sister. Director Richard Brooks (“Deadline – U. S. A.” 1952) carelessly threw together this film with a predictable storyline, sloppy writing, and mediocre production values. The only appeal of the movie is the personalities of the major stars involved.

And the star power is on high voltage with Elizabeth Taylor, Van Johnson, Donna Reed, Walter Pidgeon, Eva Gabor, Kurt Kasznar, John Doucette, and Roger Moore in his first credited role in a major motion picture. He would continue to appear in the movies until 2017. The barely watchable mediocre melodrama “The Last Time I Saw Paris” experienced only a modest profit at the box office for Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer.
