My Review

“Bringing Down the House” is a comedy movie about a recently divorced attorney attempting to get back into dating and meets a woman online he thinks he might be interested in. However, she is not what she seems, in fact, is the complete opposite, and the comedy and drama proceeds from there. Director Adam Shankman (“A Walk to Remember” 2002) put together a predictable romantic comedy that has a few humorous moments but often relies on racial and ethnic stereotypes to get laughs.

The cast delivered mediocre performances, especially Steve Martin and Queen Latifah in the lead roles. The pair are just downright unprofessional and even offensive. Co-stars include Eugene Levy, Jean Smart, Betty White, Joan Plowright, Missy Pyle, Kimberley J. Brown, Angus T. Jones, Steve Harris, and Michael Rosenbaum, who portrayed Lex Luthor on the television show “Smallville” (2001-2011).

The barely watchable “Bringing Down the House” was a surprise hit at the box office for Touchstone Pictures, Hyde Park Entertainment, Mandeville Films, Buena Vista Pictures Distribution, and The Walt Disney Company.
