My Review

“Black Widow” is a crime drama film about a woman murdered in the home of a Broadway producer, who is, of course, the prime suspect. However, with a large all-star cast, there are numerous other candidates for the job. The melodrama proceeds from there, well assembled by director-screenwriter Nunnally Johnson (“Night People” 1954). The suspense-filled plot and storyline was engrossing for the film’s entire 95 minute running time. It was adapted from the 1952 novel of the same name by Patrick Quentin.

The outstanding all-star cast includes Ginger Rogers, Van Heflin, Gene Tierney, George Raft, Peggy Ann Garner, Reginald Gardiner, Otto Kruger, Cathleen Nesbitt, Virginia Leith, Skip Homeier, Hilda Simms, Mabel Albertson, and Bea Benaderet. The very watchable melodrama “Black Widow” was a big success at the box office for producer Nunnally Johnson and 20th Century Fox.
