My Review

“Along Came Jones” is a western comedy film starring Gary Cooper, Loretta Young, Dan Duryea, and William Demarest. Cooper, who was the film’s producer, spoofs his own cowboy movie roles here. Director Stuart Heisler put together what amounts to an entertaining B western, from an adequate screenplay by Nunnally Johnson.

Gary Cooper plays a cowboy who wanders into a western town and is mistakenly identified as a notorious outlaw (Duryea). The townsfolk nearly kill him and is rescued by Loretta Young, who has plans of her own for the cowboy. “Along Came Jones” did have some popularity at the box office for producer Gary Cooper, International Pictures, Cinema Artists, and RKO Radio Pictures. This was the only feature film produced by Cooper over his long movie career (1925-1961).
