“Scarlett Street” is a film noir drama about two criminals who take advantage of a middle-aged painter in order to take credit for his artwork, which is becoming increasingly popular. Director Fritz Lang (“You Only Live Once” 1937) was masterful at the helm of this motion picture which has numerous twists and turns from a brilliant screenplay by Dudley Nichols.
The actors deliver dazzling performances, starting with Edward G. Robinson in the lead role as the artist being taken advantage of by the beautiful Joan Bennett’s femme fatale character. Dan Duryea is convincingly slimy as her boyfriend and pimp. The trio previously appeared in “The Woman in the Window” of 1944, also directed by Fritz Lang.
Co-stars in this film include Margaret Lindsay, Rosalind Ivan, Jess Barker, Charles Kemper, Anita Sharp-Bolster, Samuel S.
