My Review

“And Then There Were None” tells the story of ten strangers arriving on a Friday afternoon on island off the coast of Devon in England. They soon discover that they were all invited by a Mr. Owen, who is not present. After dinner, a gramophone record suddenly starts playing, accusing all of being murderers who have escaped legal prosecution. The group quickly realizes that they are stuck, as the boat they arrived on will not return until Monday morning.

This movie was adapted from Agatha Christie’s 1939 novel of the same name. Director Rene Clair was focused at the helm of this film, with an excellent screenplay by Dudley Nichols to work with. The cast includes Walter Huston, Judith Anderson, Barry Fitzgerald, Louis Hayward, C. Aubrey Smith, Roland Young, Queenie Leonard, Richard Haydn, June Duprez, Mischa Auer, and Harry Thurston. The suspense-filled “And Then There Were None” was a production of 20th Century Fox. It was originally called “Ten Little Indians” upon its initial release in the United Kingdom.
