The Best Picture of 2019 is…..”Parasite.” This South Korean film tells the riveting story of a poor family of four who infiltrate a wealthy couple’s home by getting hired on as household help, with a scheme in mind of enriching themselves by stealing from their employers. Things go terribly awry with a series of unexpected events.
Director-screenwriter Bong Joon-ho masterfully orchestrated this picture from start to finish. Not a dull moment in the film’s 132 minute duration. “Parasite” was nominated for six Academy Awards, winning four: Best Picture, Best Director, Best Screenplay, and Best Foreign Language Film, becoming the first foreign language movie to win Best Picture.
The marvelous South Korean cast was headed by Song Kang-ho and Jang Hye-jin. As is easy to imagine, “Parasite” was a smashing success at the box office around the world, a very watchable motion picture even with subtitles.
