The inferior sequel to the 2014 film “Maleficent” is out in theaters with a muddled plot, dark themes, and an obnoxious heroine. “Maleficent: Mistress of Evil” has Angelina Jolie reprising the title role as a wicked witch that many in the audience find it difficult to root for.
Maleficent’s feud with Michelle Pfeiffer’s Queen Ingrith leave viewers with no clear-cut protagonist to support, thanks to an ill-conceived and poorly written screenplay by Linda Woolverton, Noah Harpster, and Micah Fitzerman-Blue and sloppy direction by Joachim Renning (“Kon-Tiki” 2012). This bad movie also reflects poorly upon the star and co-producer Jolie. Get your act together, Angie!
Kudo at least go to the supporting cast for their efforts including Pfeffer, Elle Fanning, Sam Riley, Harris Dickinson, Ed Skrein, et al. “Maleficent: Mistress of Evil” is an unwatchable evil to avoid, but was a modest success at the box office for Walt Disney Pictures
