My Review

“The Rookie” is the real-life story of pitcher Jim Morris who debuted in Major League Baseball at the age of 35. Dennis Quaid does an excellent job in the title role under the expert guidance of director John Lee Hancock (“The Blind Side” 2009). He created a great storytelling biopic that has continuity and is well-paced for the entire 128 minute running time, from a lucid screenplay by Mike Rich. This watchable film is basically close to being a perfect motion picture.

The supporting cast includes Rachel Griffiths, Jay Hernandez, Brian Cox, Beth Grant, Angus T. Jones, Rick Gonzalez, Chad Lindberg, Angelo Spizzirri, Royce D. Applegate, Chris Sheffield, Blue Deckert, and Jim Morris in a cameo as an unpire. The very entertaining feel-good movie “The Rookie” was very successful at the box office for Walt Disney Pictures, Buena Vista Pictures Distribution, and The Walt Disney Company.
