“The Accidental Husband” is a romantic comedy about a New York City fireman who seeks revenge on a radio talk show host for her advise to his fiancee to end their relationship. His prank boomerangs on him big time, leading to all sorts of comedy and drama. Director Griffin Dunn (“Addicted to Love” 1997) put together a humorous film that works, despite being formulaic. Mimi Hare, Claire Naylor, and Bonnie Sikowitz penned the adequate screenplay.
The cast put in an effort to do good comedy, which includes Uma Thurman as the dating expert and Jeffrey Dean Morgan as the jilted fireman. The cast is rounded out by Colin Firth, Isabella Rossellini, Sam Shepard, Keir Dullea, Brooke Adams, Justina Machado, Lindsay Sloane, Ajay Naidu, Sarita Choudhury, and Jeffrey Tedmori.
“The Accidental Husband” was released to the public only in the UK, and not in North America, due to the bankruptcy of its distributor Yari Film Group. As a result, the film did not make a profit for producer Uma Thurman and Blumhouse Productions. It was released directly to DVD in the United States in November, 2009.
