My Review

The musical “Wicked” is out in theaters, exploring the friendship between Glinda the Good Witch and the Wicked Witch of the West, played by Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo. They turn in barely passable performances under the weak and unfocused direction of John Chu (“Crazy Rich Asians” 2018), who put out this huge boring dud of a movie extravaganza based on the long-running stage play by Stephen Schwartz and Winnie Holtzman. Winnie and Dana Fox penned the insufferably woke screenplay.

The supporting cast includes Jeff Goldblum, Michelle Yeoh, Peter Dinklage, Jonathan Bailey, Ethan Slater, Bowen Yang, and Marissa Bode. The unwatchable “Wicked” is a massive hit in theatrical release for Marc Platt Productions and Universal Pictures. Woke “Wicked” was nominated for ten Academy Awards, winning two for Best Costume Design and Best Production Design. Ervio was nominated for Best Actress and Grande for Best Supporting Actress. “Wicked Part Two” is scheduled for release in November, 2025.
