My Review

Esther Williams and Red Skelton star in the enormously entertaining musical comedy film “Bathing Beauty.” This extravaganza was Williams’ first Technicolor picture, the first one featuring her classic water ballet scenes, numerous musical numbers, and fun comedy, all expertly directed by George Sidney (“Ziegfeld Follies” 1945) and written by Joseph Schrank.

Co-stars include Basil Rathbone, Bill Goodwin, Jean Porter, Nana Bryant, Carlos Ramirez, Helen Forrest, Donald Meek, Margaret Dumont, Ethel Smith, with Xavier Cugat and Harry James and their orchestras. Janice Paige made her film debut here, in a small part as Janice. Her career in films lasted until 1994, and she passed away in 2024 at the age of 101. “Bathing Beauty” was enormously popular at the war-time box office for Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer.
