My Review

Marjorie Main as Ma Kettle goes solo in “The Kettles in the Ozarks,” the eighth installment of the popular Universal-International franchise. Percy Kilbride’s decision to leave his role of Pa Kettle had screenwriter Kay Lenard send Ma Kettle and the kids from their home in Cape Flattery, Washington, to help Pa’s brother Sedgewick with his farm in Mournful Hollow, Arkansas.

Co-stars include Una Merkel, Ted de Corsia, Olive Sturgess, Richard Eyer, Cheryl Callaway, Paul Wexler, Pat Goldin, Sid Tomack, Joe Sawyer, Richard Deacon as Big Trout, and Bonnie Franklin as Betty Kettle. This was one of Franklin’s first film roles; she would later become famous as Ann Romano on the CBS sitcom “One Day at a Time” (1975-1984). Charles Lamont directed his fifth and final Kettle picture, the entertaining “The Kettles in the Ozarks.”
