My Review

“Pal Joey” is without a doubt the definitive Frank Sinatra vehicle. The Chairman of the Board put a lot of his own personality into the wise-cracking, hard-shelled, soft-hearted, smooth-singing Joey Evans. The fantastic music was written by Richard Rogers and Lorenz Hart, with flawless arrangements by Nelson Riddle. “The Lady is a Tramp,” “Bewitched, Bothered, & Bewildered,” and “My Funny Valentine” are three of the most recognizable numbers in this motion picture.

Genius director George Sidney (“Viva Las Vegas” 1964) was in charge, with a witty screenplay by Dorothy Kingsley. Co-stars include Rita Hayworth, Kim Novak, Barbara Nichols, Bobby Sherwood, Hank Henry, Elizabeth Patterson. The very watchable “Pal Joey” was filmed in Technicolor, and a big hit in theatrical release for Essex Productions, George Sidney Productions, and Columbia Pictures.
