My Review

James Cagney portrayed silent film star Lon Chaney in the biopic “Man of a Thousand Faces.” Cagney’s dynamic performance dominated the film, guided by director Joseph Pevney (“Tammy and the Bachelor” 1957″), from an outstanding script by R. Wright Campbell, Ivan Goff, Ben Roberts, and Ralph Wheelwright. They were nominated for the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay.

The supporting cast behind James Cagney includes Dorothy Malone, Jane Greer, Jim Backus, Marjorie Rambeau, Jeanne Cagney, Roger Smith, Jack Albertson, Celia Lovsky, Robert Lynden, Rickie Sorenson, Simon Scott, Philip Van Zandt, Robert Evans as Irving Thalberg, and Clarence Kolb in his last big screen appearance. His career started in 1916 in silent pictures. “Man of a Thousand Faces” was popular at the box office for Universal Pictures.
