The romantic comedy movie “What Men Want” has some good moments and even more not so good moments, thanks to uneven direction by Adam Shankman (“A Walk to Remember” 2002) and sub-par writing by Tina Gordon, Alex Gregory, Peter Huyck.
This BET and Paramount Pictures project was a loose remake of 2000’s “What Women Want” featuring Mel Gibson and Helen Hunt. In this picture, Taraji P. Henson takes the Gibson part where she is able to hear the thoughts of members of the opposite gender. The film of two decades ago was the superior.
Supporting cast members include Josh Brener, Richard Roundtree, Tracy Morgan, Aldis Hodge, Pete Davidson, and Mark Cuban and Shaquille O’Neal as themselves. The barely watchable “What Men Want” was a moderate success at the box office for Paramount Pictures.
