My Review

“Return to Peyton Place” is a drama film about life in a small New England town. This sequel to the earlier movie “Peyton Place” (1957) was well-directed by actor Jose Ferrer, in his first experience at the helm of a motion picture, from a lucid screenplay by Ronald Alexander.

The sequel has an entirely different cast than the original, including Carol Lynley as Allison MacKenzie, Jeff Chandler as Allison’s book editor/boyfriend, Eleanor Parker as Allison’s mum Connie MacKenzie Rossi, Robert Sterling as stepfather Mike Rossi, Tuesday Weld as Selena Cross, as well as Mary Astor, Luciana Paluzzi, Brett Halsey, and Gunnar Hellstrom.

The film’s theme song, “The Wonderful Season of Love,” was performed by Rosemary Clooney (Mrs. Ferrer). The watchable melodrama “Return to Peyton Place” was successful at the box office for producer Jerry Wald and 20th Century Fox. A television series “Peyton Place” would run on ABC from 1964-1969 starring Dorothy Malone, Mia Farrow, and Ryan O’Neal.
