Cate Blanchett turns in another sterling performance, this time as an anti-social architect who mysteriously leaves her husband and daughter in Seattle and flees to Antarctica. The director and writer of “Where’d You Go, Bernadette,” Richard Linklater (“Bernie” 2011), gave Blanchett the room and the material to delve deeply into the multi-layered character. She was nominated for a Golden Globe.
The supporting cast includes Billy Crudup and Emma Nelson as her husband and daughter, Kristen Wiig, Judy Greer, James Urbaniak, Troian Bellisario, Zoe Chao, Laurence Fishburne, Steve Zahn, Megan Mullally, and Kate Burton, daughter of Richard Burton.
“Where’d You Go, Bernadette” was a 2012 novel by Maria Semple, expertly adapted to the big screen by Linklater, a good and watchable view on dvd, though not a big hit at the box office for him and United Artists.
