My Review

“Life of the Party” is a comedy film about a newly divorced woman who returns to college to complete her degree, and ends up bonding with her daughter’s friends, much to the girl’s chagrin. Director Ben Falcone (“The Boss” 2016) put together a formulaic comedy with mostly predictable laughs and storyline. He co-wrote the screenplay with Melissa McCarthy, the star of the show.

Most of the cast delivered the expected passable performances, including McCarthy, Gillian Jacobs, Maya Rudolph, Julie Bowen, Matt Walsh, Molly Gordon, Stephen Root, Jackie Weaver, Chris Parnell, and Jimmy O. Yang. The moderately watchable “Life of the Party” was modestly successful at the box office for producers Ben Falcone and Melissa McCarthy, New Line Cinema, On the Day Productions, and Warner Bros. Pictures. McCarthy won the Golden Raspberry Award for Worst Actress.
