My Review

“Fireproof” is a drama film where Kirk Cameron plays a firefighter who is a hero on the job but whose marriage is on the verge of collapse. He seeks help from his father, a devout Christian who gives him a book called “Love Dare” which challenges people to take forty steps in forty days to restore their marriage.

The results are quite dramatic in this skillfully crafted film from director Alex Kendrick (“Facing the Giants” 2006), who before and since has put together numerous films depicting people facing life’s challenges as Christians, with God’s help. He co-wrote the screenplay with his brother Stephen Kendrick.

Co-stars with Kirk Cameron are Erin Bethea, Ken Bevel, Harris Malcolm, Jason McLeod, Perry Revell, and Alex Kendrick as Pastor Strauss. The film’s supporting cast includes over 1,100 volunteers from Sherwood Baptist Church in Albany, Georgia, where Kendrick is an Associate Pastor. “Fireproof” was a huge hit at the box office for producers Alex Kendrick and Stephen Kendrick, Sherwood Pictures, Affirm Films, and Samuel Goldwyn Films.

Other movies on director Alex Kendrick’s resume are “Flywheel” (2003), “Facing the Giants” (2006), “Courageous” (2011), “War Room” (2015), “Overcomer” (2019), and “The Forge” (2024).
