My Review

“The Flintstones” is a comedy film based on the animated television series that ran on ABC from 1960-1966. The story has several subplots involving Fred and Wilma Flintstone (John Goodman & Elizabeth Perkins) and Barney and Betty Rubble (Rick Moranis & Rosie O’Donnell). Director Brian Levant (“Beethoven” 1992) did a good job putting together this entertaining comedy that retains the flavor of the original series. Fans of “The Flintstones” will enjoy this laugh-filled movie.

Co-stars include Kyle MacLachlan as Fred’s boss, Halle Berry as Miss Sharon Stone, and Elizabeth Taylor as Wilma’s mother. There are cameos by Jay Leno, Harvey Korman, Laraine Newman, Jonathan Winters, Richard Moll, and The B-52’s rock group. Original series creators William Hanna and Joseph Barbera also appeared in cameos. “The Flintstones’ was a huge box office bonanza for Imagine Entertainment, Hanna-Barbera Productions, and Universal Pictures. This was the final film role for Elizabeth Taylor, who began in movies in 1942.
