Vin Diesel stars in yet another action adventure film called “Bloodshot,” based on a Valiant Comics character. Sony Pictures had hoped to make this movie the start of their Valiant cinematic universe, another blockbuster franchise, but were stopped short by the corona virus pandemic, as “Bloodshot” was released in March, 2020.
Diesel’s character has the familiar superhero backround story of a marine killed in action and brought back to life with superpowers, with his wealthy benefactors expecting to use him in their own nefarious schemes. Diesel pulled his part off well enough, with a supporting cast that includes Eliza Gonzalez, Sam Hueghan, Toby Kevell, Talulah Riley, and Guy Pearce.
Director David S. F. Wilson made his big screen debut here, so we don’t really expect anything except what “Bloodshot” is: A barely passable, yet watchable, motion picture that should please fans of Vin Diesel. Jeff Wadlow and Eric Heisserer wrote the mediocre screenplay. There could be more movies from the Valiant cinematic universe; we will see what Valiant Entertainment, Columbia Pictures, and Sony Pictures have in mind for the future.
