Director Jeff Wadlow (“Truth or Dare” 2018) tried his hand at putting together a film version of “Fantasy Island,” the television series that ran from 1977 to 1984 on ABC. He failed miserably. The picture has the familiar story of five people who come to the island to have their wishes fulfilled, only to have Wadlow’s terrible implementation of the plot tangle up their stories one with another. Confusion reigns!
Wadlow not only directed the film, he also co-produced and co-wrote the screenplay with Chris Roach and Julian Jacobs. The cast had that to wade through this mess includes Michael Pena, Maggie Q, Lucy Hale, Jimmy O. Yang, Austin Stowell, Portia Doubleday, Ryan Hansen, Michael Rooker, etal.
“Fantasy Island” is unwatchable nonsense from Columbia Pictures and Sony Pictures. The only redeeming quality of the film seems to be the beautiful scenery in Fiji, where it was filmed.
