My Review

John Wayne joins the rodeo to help the town marshal uncover criminals in “The Man from Utah.” This B-movie western was one of many that Wayne appeared in during the 1930’s before his big break in John Ford’s 1939 classic “Stagecoach.”

Famous actor-stuntman Yakima Canutt shows up in the cast of this picture. Canutt and Wayne developed stunt techniques in these Lone Star Picture productions which are still used in film today. Co-stars include Polly Ann Young (sister of Loretta Young), George “Gabby” Hayes, Anita Campillo, Edward Peil, and George Cleveland.

The behind-the-scenes crew includes producer Paul Malvern, director Robert N. Bradbury, screenwriter Lindsay Parsons, and cinematographer Louis Clyde Stoumen. “The Man from Utah” was produced by Lone Star Pictures and distributed by Monogram Pictures. Running time is 55 minutes in this “pre-code” western movie.
