“The Reluctant Astronaut” was a vehicle for Don Knotts and hiss unique brand of comedy. Though not as laugh laden as “The Ghost and Mr. Chicken,” Knott’s first Universal project in 1966, “The Reluctant Astronaut” is nonetheless fun comedy. His role as a custodian drafted to be an astronaut fits like a glove for the Emmy-winning actor.
His co-stars in the watchable “The Reluctant Astronaut” include Joan Freeman, Arthur O’Connell, Leslie Nielsen, Jeanette Nolan, Frank McGrath, Paul Hartman, Robert F, Simon, Guy Raymond, and Jesse White, the perennial lonely Maytag repairman, and veteran Burt Mustin in an uncredited role.
