“The Omega Man” is a solid science fiction story about the sole survivor of a world-wide biological war between China and the Soviet Union. Charlton Heston lends his considerable acting skills and imposing screen presence as the main character, who must battle scores of mutant humans to survive. Director Boris Sagal (“Girl Happy” 1965) did a solid job at the helm of the film, delivering a movie with good production values, great performances, a consistent plot and storyline for the 98 minute running time.
The supporting cast behind Chuck Heston includes Anthony Zerbe, Rosalind Cash, Paul Koslo, Eric Laneuville, Lincoln Kilpatrick, and Brian Touchi. The excellent screenplay by John William Covington and Joyce H. Covington was adapted from the 1954 novel “I am Legend” by Richard Matheson. The two other film versions of the book were “The Last Man On Earth” (1964) starring Vincent Price and “I am Legend” (2007) starring Will Smith. “The Omega Man” was successful at the box office for Walter Seltzer Productions and Warner Bros. Pictures.
