“Electra Glide in Blue” is a quirky police drama where Robert Blake plays an Arizona motorcycle cop who gets into troubles of all kinds. The 114-minute film actually seems longer because of Blake’s obnoxious personality and bad direction by James William Guercio, who mainly produced albums for bands like Chicago, featured in this movie.
The screenplay by Robert Boris is no gem, but does provide words to performers like Blake and his co-stars to recite. They include Billy “Green” Bush, Mitchell Ryan, Jeannine Riley, Elisha Cook, Royal Dano, and members of the band Chicago: Peter Cetera, Terry Kath, Lee Loughnane, and Walter Parazaider. Nick Nolte is featured in an uncredited cameo as a hippie in one of his early film roles.
The film was a bomb at the box office for Guercio-Hitzig and United Artists. Glide right past “Electra Glide in Blue” and move on to something else.
