My Review

“Divorce His, Divorce Hers” is a made-for-television movie telling the story of the end of an 18-year marriage. The first half of the film (“Divorce His”) details the story from the husband’s point of view, and the second half (“Divorce Hers”) from the wife’s perspective. Director Waris Hussein and teleplay writer John Hopkins do an amazing job in depicting both sides with great perception and insight and objectivity.

The stars of the show, Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor, are outstanding in these roles. This is the twelfth and final film the pair appeared in together, that started with “Cleopatra” in 1963. Apparently real-life experience helps, as they were married and divorced twice (to each other): 1964-1974 & 1975-1976. Co-stars include Carrie Nye, Barry Foster, Gabriele Ferzetti, Ronald Radd, Thomas Baptiste, Rosalyn Landor, Daniela Serina, Rudolph Walker, and Eva Griffith.

It is worth seeing the watchable “Divorce His, Divorce Hers” just for the entertaining star power of Taylor & Burton. The 148 minute motion picture was broadcast on the ABC television network on February 6 & 7, 1973, from World Film Services and ITV Wales & West.

The twelve films of Dick and Liz: “Cleopatra” (1963), “The V. I. P.s” (1963), “Becket” (1964), “The Sandpiper” (1965), “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?” (1966), “The Taming of the Shrew” (1967), “Doctor Faustus” (1967), “The Comedians” (1967), “Boom” (1968), “Under Milk Wood” (1971), “Hammersmith is Out” (1972), and “Divorce His, Divorce Hers” (1973).
