“Go Ask Alice” is a made-for-television film about a 15-year-old girl who develops an addiction to drugs, runs away from home, and eventually seeks help. Director John Korty (“The Autobiography of Miss Jane Pitman” 1974) and teleplay writers Ellen M. Violett and Beatrice Sparks did a poor job putting together this film that suffers from a low budget and the resulting mediocre production values.
At least the cast turned in acceptable performances, especially Jamie Smith-Jackson as Alice. Co-stars include William Shatner, Ruth Roman, Wendell Burton, Andy Griffith, Robert Carradine, Julie Adams, Mackenzie Phillips (daughter of musician John Phillips), and Jennifer Edwards (daughter of filmmaker Blake Edwards). “Go Ask Alice” was broadcast as an ABC “Movie of the Week” in January, 1973. It was film on the Universal City lot at Universal Studios.
