My Review

“Airport 1975” is a crowd pleaser with loads of action and lots of movie stars. This sequel to “Airport” (1970) stars Charlton Heston as Captain Alan Murdoch, the hero of the picture, who is lowered into the 747 aircraft from a helicopter to pilot the plane after a collision with a small aircraft damages the cockpit.

Other stars include Efrem Zimbalist Jr., Roy Thinnes, and Erik Estrada as the pilot crew, Karen Black as the head stewardess, George Kennedy as the only alumnus from the original, Susan Clark is added as his wife, and Brian Morrison as their son. He later starred as Bea Arthur’s grandson in CBS-TV’s “Maude.” Another noteworthy cast member is Gloria Swanson starring as herself. This would be her final motion picture appearance in a career that began in silent films around 1914. Helen Reddy made her feature film debut here as a singing nun!

Other co-stars include Dana Andrews, Linda Blair, Sid Caesar, Myrna Loy, Ed Nelson, Nancy Olson, Larry Storch, Martha Scott, Jerry Stiller, Norman Fell, Conrad Janis, Beverly Garland, Terry Lester, Christopher Norris, Guy Stockwell, Linda Harrison, and Sharon Gless. “Airport 1975” was a huge blockbuster, the seventh highest grossing picture of the year, for Universal Pictures. It was filmed in beautiful Technicolor.
