My Review

“The Odessa File” is a political thriller movie about a reporter’s pursuit of a man who allegedly ran a Nazi prison camp during World War II, now a respected leader in post-war Germany. Director Ronald Neame (“The Poseidon Adventure” 1972) and screenwriters Kenneth Ross and George Markstein did an excellent job of putting together this two-hour plus thriller. It was adapted from the 1972 novel of the same name by Frederick Forsyth.

The cast is headed by Jon Voight, who turns in a riveting performance early in his career. Capable co-stars include Mary Tamm, Maximilian Schell, Maria Schell, Derek Jacobi, Peter Jeffrey, Klaus Lowitsch, Kurt Meisel, and Oskar Werner in an uncredited role. Andrew Lloyd Webber composed the musical score. Simon Wiesenthal lent his expertise to the film as a technical advisor.

“The Odessa File” was successful in theatrical release for John Woolf Productions, Domino Productions, Oceanic Filmproduktion, and Columbia Pictures.
