My Review

“Macon County Line” is the story of a county sheriff in Georgia who is out for revenge when his wife is killed by two drifters, not checking the facts closely to find out if he has possibly gone after the wrong people. The heavy drama proceeds from there.

Director Richard Compton (“Welcome Home, Soldier Boys” 1972) has put together a passable drama which does hold the viewer’s attention for the ninety minute running time. He co-wrote the screenplay with Max Baer Jr. (famous as Jethro Bodine of CBS-TV’s “The Beverly Hillbillies” 1962-1971).

The stars include Geoffrey Lewis, Joan Blackman, Leif Garrett, Max Baer Jr., Alan Vint, Jesse Vint, Cheryl Waters, James Gammon, Timothy Scott, and Sam Gilman. Many of the performances are sub-par, due to a number of inexperienced actors in supporting roles. “Macon County Line” did have some success at the box office for producer Max Baer Jr. and American International Pictures.
